NAME
La
Caille Nous - a derivative of "Lakay Nou" -
means "our house" in Haitian Kreyol. Established
October 1995. First title published in February 1996.
MISSION
To shape the next generation's intellectual musing and
redefine the cultural landscape, by publishing books
that have an entertainment, as well as a cultural aspect.
To publish literary works by new writers, on topics
that are relevant to African people.
PUBLISHING
PROGRAM
Mainstream
and genre fiction will be the core of the program
Poetry, and Culture & Politics will be used for
culture reaffirmation and definition
Haitian
literature, original works and translations, will be
the last tier of the program.
TRIANGLE
OFFENSE
Originally
a printed newsletter, the Triangle Offense will be transformed
into an online informative and interactive publication,
which promotes the writings of graduate students, employees
of community-based organizations, and aspiring journalists
and creative writers.
ASSOCIATE
PUBLISHERS PROGRAM
Operates
as a virtual learning internship for college students
and young professionals by providing practical hands-on
experience in the areas of writing, editing and publishing
through their involvement.
YOUNG
SCHOLARS SERIES
Provides
an outlet for the writings of graduate and professional
students, and nonprofit community leaders; and serves
as a venue for introducing ideas regarding the testing
of new models for learning, and effective community
empowerment.
SUBMISSION
GUIDELINES
Fiction:
The first 3 chapters, no more than 40 pages.
Nonfiction:
Send query letter and/or synopsis.
Poetry:
Twenty pages, no more than 5 pages per poem.
SASE: Send
a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope with sufficient postage
to ensure safe return of your manuscript.
COOPERATIVE
PUBLISHING
La
Caille Nous will collaborate with individuals or institutions
to publish works that may fall out of our specialty,
but which we feel should be published.
